Stan Lee (yes, mister superhero in person) said the Hulk's creation was inspired by a combination of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Frankenstein. When Lou Ferrigno played the Hulk on TV starting in 1977 - the character gained worldwide success ! (and kids allove the playgrounds started ripping their shirts just like him !)
